Nigerians living abroad sue INEC and Buhari over failure to participate in 2023 general election.
Diasporas living abroad are seeking an order from the High court, that would compel the President of Nigeria and INEC to allow them be involve in the coming election in 2023.
Many cited gross violation of their fundamental human right, if INEC refused to allow Nigerians that live in the UK, US and other countries to have a part in the election.
The case number FHC/ ABJ/ CS/ 2119/ 2022, Which was brought before an Abuja High court, the plaintiffs who are; Chikwe Nkemnacho and Kenneth Nkemnacho, both residents of UK filled on behalf of diasporas living abroad, the suit pray that the court should stop President Buhari and the electoral body, INEC from further proceeding of the general election process in 2023, Until INEC makes provision that will accommodate those that are not in the county.
They argued that the court still has enough time to comply to their demand with regards to provision of sections 13, 14 and 15 of the 1999 constitution amended, if not allowed it would be a breach of their constitutional rights.
For further hearing , Justice Inyang Ekwo has adjourned the case till January 19, 2023. And ordered service of all the court processes on the defendants.
