ABUJA - KUDUNA TRAIN SET TO RESUME

President Buhari approved 4.3Billion Naira for the procurement of new coaches.

According to the Minister Of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo on Monday, when he briefed newsmen of the President 4.3billion Naira approval for the procurement of new coaches that would ply Lagos -Ibadan, Warri - Itakpe and Abuja - Kaduna routes, next year. He also claimed that the forestalled Abuja/Kaduna train service will resume operations before the ending of the month.

But, Nigeria Union of Railways Workers(NURW) has made it clear that until the government meet with the demands of security features within the train service, the Railways Workers will not risk their lives. This was disclosed by the President of the Union, Innocent Ajiji after the Federal Government announced on Monday that the resumption of Abuja - Kaduna train service will be restored this month.

Ajiji said “ While they’re doing this, they are not carrying us along. Therefore, we are watching them to say that they’re prepared. Once, they pronounce that we will assess what is on ground, If we are satisfied with what we see, we will allow our members to go on with the train operations, but if we are not satisfied, no member would be allowed to work on the train.”

The President of the Union reacts: “It is just a media statement that we heard from the Minister like every other person. The Minister has not granted us audience so we can discuss properly. We have written several times requesting for a meeting, but he has not responded. That statement, as far as I am concerned, is still a media statement because we are not seeing it as a mission that has materialised.”
