My Covenant with Nigerians’
Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the People Democratic Party( PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, yesterday at Marriott Hotel, Lagos. He, disclosed to members of Nigeria Guild of Editors, NGE, his 5points agenda which he tagged;
“ My Covenant with Nigerians” …
Which he listed as follows ;
- Restore Nigeria’s Unity through equity, social justice as well as co-operation and consensus among the people.
- Establishment of a strong and effective democratic government that can boast of safety and security of lives and properties.
- Promote a true federal system, which will provide a strong Federal Government for national unity while allowing the federating unity to set their own priorities.
- Improve and strengthen the eduction system to equip its recipients with the education and skills required to be competitive in the new global order which is driven by innovation, science and technology and to lead healthy, productive, meaningful lives.
- Anti- corruption is not shy from the list as he promised to champion institutional reforms of agencies and further strengthen them.
He made assurance of a drafted amendment bill for the restructuring of Nigeria. On Economy, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar said his administration would continue with liberation and free market economy which his party, the PDP started between 1999 to 2007.
Furthermore, He added that ;
“In preparing the draft for the amendment bill, what I did was to assemble a team of lawyers, who are some of the best in the country.
“I picked lawyers from each of the six geo-political zones so that each zone would have representation and a sense of belonging in what we were packaging Nigerians and also to take into account the interests of each component part of the country.

“Mind you, the process of amending the constitution involves the Executive, the National Assembly and the state Houses of Assemblies.
So, on the first day of seating, I will present the bill.
“The greatest economies in the world are driven by the private sector, so why should Nigeria be different, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, added.
According to him increasing the number of police officers to about 700,000 will help with the challenges of policing while the same time reducing unemployment.
