PDP blames opposition party for Lagos Street Market Inferno.

Famous Lagos Street Market, a huge commercial hub for wholesalers in Benin city, was gutted by fire on Tuesday night, billions worth of goods were loss.

The fire incident seemed to have stirred up the heat between the incumbent, PDP and the opposition party, APC.

On Wednesday, Edo state Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Mr. Chris Nehikhare, pointed fingers at the leadership of the APC for being the ones responsible for the inferno that  caused the loss of billions worth of goods.

Nehihkare instigated that it has become a thing of coincidence anytime an election  is close by, the opposition party, APC, would set fires at the market to inflict pains

He’s also faulted the statement made by the opposition party to the press as a source for political gain and insisted Edo State APC Chairman, Col. David Imuse(Rtd) and  Mr. John Mayaki, the spokesperson for the party , should be invited for questions with regards to the alleged fire out break.

Moreover, on Wednesday, Spokesman, Mr. Mayaki charged back by accusing Gov. Godwin Obaseki’s administration of “unconscionable negligence, with reference to the gutted Lagos street market.

There have been cases of fire outbreak at this time of the year before, the commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare said ;

“The Edo State All Progressives Congress has confirmed our strong suspicion that they are responsible or at least complicit in the Lagos Street fire of Tuesday and similar fire incidents that have happened in eve of during electioneering campaigns season in the past, in our state”.

His word; “ Recall that prior to the 2020 gubernatorial election, Eki-Osa Market, Santanna Market and Oba Market were set on fire.

“In fact, traders in Eki-Osa told journalists then that the fire was the handiwork of mischief makers, at a time the APC was aggressively looking for ways to blackmail Governor Godwin Obaseki and dent his high popularity ratings weeks before the election.

“It would interest you to know that since after the last gubernatorial election in Edo State, there haven’t been any fire.

“Now that the elections are coming again, the APC has resorted to one of its devilish and inhuman tactics and has started with the Lagos Street fire incident.

“Burning down markets is not a way to resurrect dead political party that has manufactured unprecedented levels of poverty for Nigerians.

“We want to warn them and their collaborators to desist from this life of crime. Arson is crime punishable by jail time. Both sponsors and perpetrators are equally liable.

He also added: “ We advise the youths not to allow themselves to be used to sabotage our mothers and fathers in the markets and larger society… “
