Senator Bassey sentenced to 42years for corruption.

Former Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Finance, Mr Bassey Albert, have been sentenced to 42years behind bars for corruption related charges. Before his conviction on Thursday, the former commissioner who happens to be the governorship flag bearer of YPP next year election was sentenced by a Federal High court. 

Mr Albert served as Akpiabo’s commissioner of finance  from  2010 to 2014 , his case was brought to the Court in 2018, after several failed attempts to honor EFCC invitations. 

The case involves  12 cars that amounted to N254 million, that Mr Bassey Albert  collected from Olajidee Omakore, an oil market. At the time of perpetuating the offense, he was and still the current senate committee chairman on petroleum upstream committee. 

The senator representing Ibom North East since 2015 switched from People Democratic Party(PDP) to a new party YPP 3months ago to pursue his governorship aspiration. 

Judge Agatha Okeke, the presiding judge of the Federal High Court ruled for Bassey to spend 42 years behind Ikot Ekpene bars.
